Gulf American Shrimp

Yesterday was a dream.

Day 1 of the filming Sustainable Ground we met Mark Godwin of Gulf American Shrimp. He is the head of this family team and the current torch bearer of five generations of shrimp farmers. It is truly a family affair. They are intricately involved in the success of the business.

They are one of only two shrimp farmers in the United States. Read that again.

Mark’s innovative solutions, sustainable practices, and the love they have for each other and what they do is truly impressive.

They were so warm and welcoming - with tents and a huge running fan set up (so needed in the intense heat) as well as food and drinks ready for us the moment we arrived. We had so much fun with them. Amber Smith (from Acres) fed the shrimp and threw a net out to collect them. After a few hours of shooting, the family took us out to dinner at The Fish Market that serves their shrimp, which was out of this world delicious! At the end of the night, we felt like we had made new friends.

My mind is still spinning from yesterday. I haven’t even had an opportunity to go through the footage. (We are currently at a farm in Alabama to film tonight.)

I cannot wait to share more with you.
